You have found the perfect spot for your tree. Had ‘the talk’ with the cat. Measured the space and purchased a stand that is sturdy and will accommodate the tree’s height and width. Now it is time to go Christmas tree shopping but not all trees are created equal so here is a quick reference for five popular trees.
Douglas Fir is found in many holiday homes, especially in western Canada. This tree is popular for its good needle retention and a lovely sweet fragrance. It’s an open style tree with long branches so perfect to have all your favorite ornaments on full display.
Lodgepole Pine is a stately tall and narrow tree. Its branches point upwards and this natural look makes it a lovely addition to a rural or ranch style home. This is a tree with the best needle retention of them all – perfect for those families who like to get their tree up early and keep it right through to the New Year. High ceilings are an advantage to seeing the Lodgepole Pine in its full glory when decorated.
Fraser Fir with silvery-blue needles and sturdy base is a beauty even undecorated! Dense sturdy branches are able to hold those heavier ornaments. Good needle retention and a light fragrance make this a seasonal favorite.
The Balsam Fir’s short, flat needles make it’s slender/flexible branches easy to decorate. However, it may not be ideal for large or heavy ornaments. The fragrance, soft feel and deep-green needles of the Balsam fir speak of long-standing Christmas traditions. Excellent needle retention with or without water.
While not as well known the Blue Cook Fir tree is robust and being enjoyed for the smell it releases as well as for its green colour, slightly bluish appearance. These trees have a symmetrical, pyramidal shape and are composed of soft needles. This is also a popular tree for landscaping. Considered one of the best performing of all the firs.
Nothing speaks to the Holiday Season more than the beauty and smell of a real tree! We are pleased to be able to offer all of these trees at our lots.
