Fall & Winter Maintenance for Your Commercial Property

Landscape Plus

Commercial Property should be functional and attractive. Well-designed landscaping and hardscaping add value to your investment and your property looks appealing to customers/clients, tenants and visitors.  The work needed is year round but the return is a good impression which starts the moment your customer drives into your parking lot.

When parking lots and sidewalks are clean this also ensures the safety of visitors and employees as hazards like broken glass or ice can result in injury.

Here is a Fall & Winter checklist to help you have property to be proud of:

FALL

Remove dirt and debris from gutters and downspouts which will permit the proper drainage of water away from your building and preventing damage to your building and gutters.

Check exterior lighting, a well-lit outdoor area ensures both safety and security.

Evaluate the landscape. Look for are dead trees (& limbs) and shrubs that may need replacement or trimming.

Examine parking areas and sidewalks; check for trip hazards, such as cracks and potholes. Crack sealing and seal coating of asphalt areas should be completed at least every other year.

Lawns need a final cut and a layer of fertilizer laid before winter arrives.  This is the time to remove and/or treat problem weeds, diseased trees and shrubs in order to maintain long-term health.

Protecting your investment by pruning and wrapping plants, shrubs and trees that are new or delicate in burlap sacks and tied with twine to prevent any damage.

Irrigation system: Drain and blow out the pipes in the sprinkler system in order to avoid frozen and burst pipes.

WINTER

Snow and ice removal is all important as winter increases the likelihood of slips and falls. Keep lots and sidewalks clear and salted or sanded.

Brighten up the landscaping by planting some flowers, shrubs, and trees that bloom in winter. Discuss what works best in your area with your landscaping company.

During the Holiday season a lit outdoor Christmas tree makes your premises festive and can enhance your business;  if a tree isn’t feasible some outdoor lights in bushes and shrubs lets you stand out on those dark December nights.
